Samsung B2710 (also known as Xcover 271) is an update on Samsung’s tough and rugged phone B2700.
It is an IP67 certified handset and is completely dustproof and waterproof for a depth of up to 1 meter for thirty minutes. In addition to that it is also shock and drop resistant. All of its ports are hidden under waterproof panels though it would be wiser to check that everything is sealed before getting it wet.
Despite being Samsung’s most rugged phone it does not compromise on the features. The helpful outdoor features of Samsung B2710 include dedicated flashlight, Pedometer, Altimeter, Stopwatch and a Digital Compass. The handset also features a web browser and email client and above all the B2710 comes with a built-in GPS and Google Maps.
The Samsung B2710 showcases a 2 megapixels camera capable of capturing still images and videos. It also has Bluetooth 2.1, quad-band GSM and UMTS connectivity and a 1300 mAh battery that provides up to 7 hours of talk-time and 20 days standby time on 3G, or a 19 hours talk-time and 25 days standby if you switch down to GSM. There is also a multimedia player (with music and video functionality), a microSD slot (supports memory expansion up to 32 GB) and a Stereo FM radio with RDS and FM recording as well.

Purchased My Samsung B2710 two month ago and signed up with 2degrees, dumping Telecom. It is a good reliable tough phone. The operating instructions are basic and lacking a little detail for the phones functionality. At 2 megapixels the camera is below basic. The inbuilt torch could become a liability but for those people who walk around day and night without their phone leaving the palm of their hand I can see it being occasionally useful. Battery life could be better and if you start accessing the internet regularly don't expect the battery to last more than a day. Other than that I'm pleased with this phone. Shop around for a good price. (Posted on 31/07/11)
